Who you'll meet at the door
Chad Binsburg owns Moonlight Lock & Safe and does the work. There's no dispatcher and no subcontractor. The person who quotes the job on the phone is the person who turns up at the door.

Why "Moonlight"
Moonlight State Beach is at the foot of B Street, where Downtown runs out of road, and it's the beach most of Encinitas grew up on. It's also true that people don't get locked out on a schedule; a fair share of our calls come after dark. The name covers both. This is the one place on the site we'll explain it.
How we work
- A quote on the phone, before we drive.
- Non-destructive entry first, always.
- ID before we open a door or a safe that isn't ours to open.
- Keys tagged by door, so you know which is which.
- The porch and the closet left the way we found them, brass shavings included.
- Photos of the finished work for owners who aren't in town.
- A straight answer when something isn't worth doing, like rekeying a cylinder the salt has already eaten.
Our prices are published, which is the other half of working this way.
Licensed and insured
A California locksmith company, licensed through the state's Bureau of Security and Investigative Services, and insured. Ask to see either at the door.
California licenses locksmith companies through the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services, part of the Department of Consumer Affairs, and we hold that license. We carry insurance as well. Ask about either when you call, or at the door; we'd rather you check than wonder. It matters because the alternative is a search-result company that has neither.
The shop and the van
Most jobs finish in one visit because the van is the shop: a key machine for standard and restricted blanks, pinning kits for the common keyways, a stock of deadbolts, levers and entry sets in the finishes that suit coastal homes, safe-opening tools and replacement safe locks, gate hardware, and the boring things, like strike plates and long screws, that fix more doors than anything fancy. The workbench at home base is for mortise rebuilds and safe locks that need patience.
Safes are half the name and half the van. The rest of it is set up for the rental owners who keep us busy every summer.
